Key Takeaways

  • Global Agtech company Dimitra has launched Dimitra Carbon — a new initiative aimed at supplying DMTR Carbon Credits to smallholder farmers.
  • Dimitra Carbon utilizes blockchain technology to ensure that every DMTR Carbon Credit is fully traceable and verified.
  • By reducing the costs and time investment required to generate tradable, verifiable carbon credits, Dimitra Carbon empowers farmers across South America, Africa, and Asia.
  • The global carbon credit market is projected to reach $50 billion by 2030.

Global Agtech company Dimitra has launched Dimitra Carbon, an initiative that aims to democratize the carbon offset market. Dimitra Carbon will provide DMTR Carbon Credits that are rigorously verified, traceable, and compliant with stringent environmental standards.

Built on blockchain technology, Dimitra Carbon offers an unprecedented level of transparency and credibility in the carbon offset market. Each DMTR Carbon Credit is fully traceable back to its origin. Ensuring that credits are verified by stringent monitoring and reporting standards. This eliminates the risk of credits being sold multiple times, providing unmatched assurance to buyers.

Heading Dimitra Carbon Credits

One of the most transformative aspects of Dimitra Carbon is its focus on inclusivity. By leveraging blockchain, the initiative makes the carbon market accessible to approximately 500 million small-scale farmers worldwide who have been traditionally excluded due to the high costs and time investment required to generate tradable, unique, and verifiable carbon credits.

Dimitra expects this democratization to empower farmers across South America, Africa, and Asia, regions where it already collaborates with local agricultural communities.

“Our mission with Dimitra Carbon is to create a sustainable future by empowering farmers and offering high-quality carbon credits,” said Jon Trask, CEO of Dimitra.

“By integrating blockchain technology, sustainability, and agriculture, we can make a meaningful impact on climate change and drive positive transformation to communities worldwide. Our dedication to this initiative underscores our commitment to environmental sustainability and supporting local farmers and crypto communities,” Jon added.

The deployment of the DMTR token not only expedites the process of carbon credit offsetting. But also adds a layer of traceability and trust, aligning with regulatory requirements. This initiative allows businesses to reduce carbon costs through clear and verifiable data, simplifying auditing and verification processes.

To further incentivize corporate participation, Dimitra offers a 10% discount on carbon credits purchased using the DMTR token. This discount aims to encourage companies to minimize their carbon footprint. While supporting the growth of a transparent and reliable carbon credit market.

Diego Costa, COO of Dimitra, highlighted the significant potential of the carbon credit market: “The global carbon credit market is experiencing unprecedented growth, with an estimated market value of over $1 billion in the voluntary carbon market in 2021 and projections reaching $50 billion by 2030. The demand for high-quality carbon projects has never been higher.”

To meet this demand, Dimitra has appointed a carbon program lead to collaborate with its data science team. This dedicated focus on the carbon market is already attracting interest. From various countries eager to join the DMTR Carbon project.

Where the company has already begun working with local farmers to integrate sustainable agricultural practices. By combining cutting-edge agricultural technologies with environmentally sustainable methods, Dimitra is enabling farmers to boost productivity while minimizing carbon emissions.

Heading Dimitra Arasco

Dimitra Europe GmbH, a wholly owned subsidiary of Dimitra Incorporated, has collaborated with Arasco Food BV on a pilot project to achieve EUDR/CS3D compliance readiness for their coffee supply chain in Cameroon.

The primary objectives are to onboard 5000 farmers to the Dimitra mobile application Connected Coffee and train them to utilize Dimitra’s comprehensive tools.

The Connected Coffee platform is a multi-stakeholder platform that prioritizes grower productivity and supply chain management. The modules in scope include Farm Registration, Crop Management, Farmer Survey and Communication, and Data Acquisition. The goal is to rapidly scale the data work required to protect participation in EUDR/CS3D-regulated markets, thereby supporting Coffee Farmers, Coffee Collection- and Processing operators, Traders, Exporters, and other local coffee industry stakeholders.

The Dimitra/Arasco collaboration aims to prepare Cameroon coffee farming communities to supply EUDR-required data for supply chain mapping and farm level. Farm registration and training have commenced in the Littoral and West regions of Cameroon.

Dimitra’s platform will trace the physical flow of goods within the scope of EUDR from the farm to Arasco’s processing units and create due diligence reports accordingly. The platform will also ensure upstream traceability for Arasco, guaranteeing that every stage of the supply chain, from raw material procurement to product delivery, is transparent and compliant with EUDR.

We are excited to be part of this transformative journey and look forward to the positive impact it will bring.”

Andreas Cerdan, Director of Dimitra Europe, said, “Our Dimitra team is excited to be working with Arasco to prepare one of their key coffee origins for EUDR compliance. Rather than avoiding remote origins, Arasco takes this decisive step towards a fully digitized supply chain.”

Artificial Intelligence, Deforestation and Cacao

Do you know where it comes from or how much effort is put into making your favorite bar of chocolate? As the world changes, our favorite foods change with it, and now AI is helping make our food better, safer, and fairer. AI is used to help maintain the income of small farmers at the same time ensuring the continued production of this delicious product. Several European countries produce the most recognized and consumed chocolate brands in the world. However, the product that gives rise to these chocolates comes from small producers in countries such as Côte d’Ivoire, Ghana, Ecuador, Cameroon, Nigeria, Brazil, Indonesia, and Peru.

Over 5 million tons of cocoa are produced annually by small farmers around the world and around 40% of the harvest cocoa is processed in Europe, which is now beginning to require importers to offer a series of guarantees about the farm of origin, with emphasis on guaranteeing zero deforestation. There are millions of small farms and hundreds of thousands of cooperatives that starting in January 2025, need to have traceability, risk assessment and forest suitability analysis tools in place. It is in this scenario that Dimitra and its AI appear as one of the few options for these small farmers to offer all the necessary guarantees for export. Instead of spending hundreds of dollars, that they don’t have, and a lot of time on a conventional certification process, farmers will be able to invest a few dollars in DMTR and use Dimitra’s AI to analyze satellite images and prove the absence of deforestation, in addition to using the same AI to analyze other risks mentioned in the Law. Dimitra’s AI offers needed solutions for millions of farmers around the world!
